Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project

The Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project was founded in 1992 by a group of consumer and business bankruptcy lawyers, members of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, Community Legal Services, Inc., and the Philadelphia BAR Association's VIP as a Pennsylvania non-profit organization. CBAP has become a national model for other consumer bankruptcy assistance organizations.

Attorneys, paralegals, and law students volunteer through CBAP's Fresh Start Clinic to provide direct, pro bono legal representation to the indigent seeking to obtain the protection of Bankruptcy Court.

Through the Fresh Start Clinic, CBAP trains attorneys, law students, and paralegal who provide direct representation to clients in chapter 7 bankruptcy. After volunteers attend a training clinic taught by an experienced bankruptcy practitioner, volunteers handle their case from the initial interview to the final discharge.
